Etymology
Provenance
'Oont Sawar' is an art print of a lone rider crossing on a tall black camel, a scene drawn from the deserts of Rajasthan. Like the courtly paintings it echoes, the image is shown entirely in profile, with the figure set against broad, flat bands of colour so that the silhouette of the camel carries the composition.
The rider sits high on a rust and ochre saddle cloth, dressed in a long white kurta with a shawl falling to his knees, a saffron turban wound high on his head and a curled moustache. He holds the reins loosely as they loop forward to the camel's bridle. The camel walks with a long, arching neck and impossibly slender legs, its dark form filling most of the frame, while a small amber sun hangs in the upper left corner.
Ochre, deep green, black and ivory make a calm, earthy palette, lifted by the saffron of the turban. The stretched proportions of the camel and the empty sky give the print a quiet, slightly dreamlike stillness. It suits a hallway, a study or a living room with warm, natural tones.
