Etymology
Provenance
Siddhidatri completes the Navadurga with the ninth form, the giver of the siddhis, representing spiritual accomplishment and completeness. The painting presents her as a central, enthroned figure surrounded by worshippers, its Cubist planes gathering the whole composition towards her.
Siddhidatri sits upon a vast pink lotus, her four hands holding a discus, a conch, a mace and a lotus. She wears a red and ochre sari, a long white garland, a jewelled crown and gold earrings, framed by a broad gold halo. Around her, six devotees – bearded sages, crowned figures and others – join their palms in reverence, emerging from the edges of the canvas.
Coral red, blush, ochre and gold are set against soft sky blue and cream, creating a warm, celebratory glow. The rounded, cloud-like forms in the background and the circle of worshippers give the work a sense of harmony and completion, fitting for the final form of the Goddess.
