Etymology
Provenance
'Shrinathji Receiving the Family's Offering' is a Pichwai painting in which devotees approach the deity in a moonlit garden. It follows the Nathdwara arrangement of a frontal Shrinathji in a pale niche, and the presence of a man and a small boy beside two women gives it an intimate, domestic note of worship.
Shrinathji stands with a dark-blue face, a peacock-feather crown and a raised left arm holding a coral cloth, wearing a skirt of blue, pink, green and yellow bands with pearl strands and a petal garland. On the left, a man in a saffron robe offers a tray while a small boy beside him joins his hands in prayer. On the right, two women approach, one holding the end of the deity's cloth and the other a peacock-feather fan. Banana leaves and dark trees rise behind, and two peacocks stand above a stream of pink lotuses.
Green, blue, saffron and coral make a lively, layered palette, with the pale niche and the white moon as the lightest notes. Fine dots on the garments and tiny flowers in the grass give the surface a gentle texture. A yellow border of pink and blue flowers frames the scene. It is a warm, approachable painting for a family room or a prayer space.
