Etymology
Provenance
High among the Himalayas, where mountains disappear beneath gathering clouds, Mahadev emerges from the storm like a presence that was always there. His blue-grey form is barely separated from the surrounding mist, with only the quiet curve of his crescent moon and the silhouette of his trident revealing the divine figure within the landscape.
The painting draws upon the drama of Romantic landscape painting, where nature becomes a language for the sublime. Storm clouds, distant mountains, and veils of atmospheric colour converge around Shiva, while a sudden opening in the sky allows warm light to break through- suggesting revelation without ever overpowering the stillness of the scene.
