The Samudra Manthan, or the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, is one of the most celebrated cosmological stories in the Vishnu Purana, Bhagavata Purana, and the Mahabharata. To recover the nectar of immortality (Amrita), the Devas and Asuras join forces, using Mount Mandara as the churning rod and the serpent Vasuki as the rope. From the cosmic ocean emerge fourteen divine treasures, including Lakshmi, Dhanvantari, and finally the Amrita itself. The story has long symbolised the idea that wisdom, prosperity, and transformation arise through perseverance and the balance of opposing forces.

This print draws inspiration from the Mughal miniature tradition, combining rich cobalt blues, luminous gold accents, and refined symmetry with subtle geometric motifs inspired by sacred yantras. The composition centres on Mount Mandara, with the Devas and Asuras balanced on either side, while the glowing vessel of Amrita crowns the scene as the ultimate reward for their collective effort.

Blending mythology with timeless symbolism, this print celebrates one of India's most enduring narratives of cooperation, resilience, and the pursuit of higher knowledge.
