Rangoli Art Print – Peacock in the Lotus Pool

This rangoli-inspired art print brings together the peacock and the lotus, two of the best-loved motifs in Indian festive design, within a single circular medallion of the kind often drawn at doorways during Diwali. The composition is pared back to broad, flat shapes, with the bird's long neck sweeping around the inside of the circle to enclose a small pool of lotuses, and a ring of buds and dots completing the rangoli's outer edge. The result is at once ornamental and calm: a quiet, self-contained emblem suited to the festive season and to the year beyond it.

The peacock's deep blue neck forms almost the whole circumference of the medallion, rising from the lower left, curving across the top and bending down so that its head, with a small crest of three plumes, looks inward over the flowers. Its body, gathered at the right, is built from overlapping curves of teal, rust and ochre, one band studded with small gold dots. Within the curve stands a full lotus in rust and ochre, a second smaller bloom above it and a closed bud to the right, among broad round leaves with pale radiating veins and taller leaves reaching upward. Small gold discs float around the flowers like points of light. Outside the ring, a border of small rust buds nestled in green leaves alternates with gold dots, framing the medallion on a plain parchment ground. The lotus, long associated in India with purity and with blooming untouched above still water, sits at the heart of the design, held in the protective sweep of the bird.

The palette is muted and earthy: indigo, sage and forest green, rust and ochre on a warm parchment ground, with gentle mottling and brushed texture visible within each flat shape. Fine ivory lines separate the petals and veins, keeping the forms crisp despite their softness. The generous empty ground above and below the medallion gives it room to breathe. The brushed and weathered texture is part of the original image; the Brahm piece is a made-to-order print that reproduces it on a smooth surface.
