A dense bouquet of flowers rises from a single stem growing directly out of the ground, the arrangement formally composed in the manner of European botanical still-life painting but transformed entirely by the Bundi court artist's sensibility. The tradition of floral still-life entered Indian miniature painting under the Mughal emperor Jahangir, who was a passionate naturalist, and spread across the Rajput courts as an independent subject. The original was commissioned for a royal collection in the hill kingdoms of northern India and now hangs in the Cleveland Museum of Art. This print is the only way to own it.
