Provenance
Rose and teal against ivory — carried here in the layered ornate medallion format: a central medallion of unusual complexity, built from concentric floral rings that expand outward across the field, each layer adding density and richness until the composition reaches its formal border. The ivory ground beneath this layering provides both foundation and breathing space.
Woven by hand in Uttar Pradesh using Silk Wool Blend, Gulrang draws on the traditional layered medallion designs of the great Persian court carpet workshops — rings within rings, each carrying its own botanical ornament. The rose Silk Wool Blend pile achieves a warmth in natural light that photographs rarely capture; the teal provides the cool counterpoint that prevents the palette from becoming sweet.
Gulrang is for rooms that hold their warmth. In a bedroom with linen and rose-toned plaster walls, the carpet extends the palette underfoot. In a drawing room, it pairs with ivory upholstery and brass hardware — the rose warming the composition, the teal providing the touch of cool.
