Combining the elegance of courtly sport with the sophistication of early Mughal painting, this remarkable composition captures a falconry hunt in motion. Attributed to the celebrated Persian artist Abd al-Samad, the work reflects the cultural exchanges that shaped the Mughal court during Akbar's reign. Rich in historical detail and artistic refinement, it offers a glimpse into the pursuits, traditions, and visual splendor of one of India's greatest imperial dynasties. The original artwork is preserved in the Cleveland Museum of Art. This print is the only way to own it.

Provenance

This lively hunting scene depicts a Mughal falconry expedition, one of the most prestigious pursuits of the imperial court. Horsemen move through an open landscape as trained falcons pursue their prey, capturing the excitement and discipline associated with aristocratic hunting traditions. The young figure at the lower left may represent Emperor Akbar in his youth, reflecting his well-documented passion for hunting from an early age.

Attributed to Abd al-Samad, one of the Persian masters who helped establish the Mughal imperial atelier, the painting belongs to the formative period of Mughal art when Persian artistic traditions merged with Indian subjects and landscapes. The work was later mounted into a Mughal album alongside pages of Chaghatai Turkish calligraphy, preserving both the visual culture and literary heritage of the early Mughal world.
