Impressionist Art Print – “Padma Sarovar”: Rowing Through the Lotus Pond

Provenance

'Padma Sarovar' is an art print in an Impressionist manner, looking straight down on a small wooden boat as it glides through a pond crowded with lotus leaves. The bird's-eye view turns the scene into a pattern of circles and currents, with the boat as the one straight line among them.

Two figures sit in the narrow boat, one in white pulling on a pair of long oars and one in red at the bow. Around them, broad lotus leaves crowd the water in greens, yellows and touches of pink and orange, each marked with radiating veins. A winding channel of dark teal water opens through the leaves, swirling with ribbons of blue, purple and gold, and bright orange koi swim alongside the boat and gather in the lower part of the pond.

Green, teal and deep blue dominate, with the orange of the koi and the red of the passenger as vivid accents. In the artwork the image is built from short, broken flecks of colour in the Impressionist manner; as a print on canvas cloth, the surface itself is flat. It suits a tall, narrow wall, a bedroom or a calm reading corner.
