Hanuman and the Mountain of Devotion - Impressionist Print

Provenance

This artwork captures Lord Hanuman standing triumphantly upon a rugged mountain peak, lifting the immense Dronagiri mountain above his head while holding his golden gada against the rocky terrain. A radiant sunrise illuminates his monumental form against a vast horizon of distant peaks, transforming the scene into an epic vision of strength, devotion, and unwavering purpose.

The painting depicts one of the most celebrated episodes from the Ramayana. When Lakshmana required the life-restoring Sanjivani herb, Hanuman, unable to identify the specific plant, carried the entire mountain rather than risk failing in his mission. The lifted Dronagiri becomes a symbol of boundless capability, resourcefulness, and the extraordinary strength born from devotion. His gada represents power, authority, and protection, while the rising sun evokes hope, renewal, and the triumph of light over adversity.

Rendered through a fusion of Heroic Indian Realism and Expressionist Impressionism, the artwork uses heavy impasto to give physical force to its mythic subject. Fiery amber, saffron, and gold illuminate Hanuman and the surrounding clouds, contrasting with the cool indigos, slate blues, and muted teals of the distant mountains. Thick, sculptural brushwork builds the rugged mountain, powerful form of the deity, and windswept sky, creating a striking contrast between the movement of the landscape and Hanuman’s unwavering stability.
