Krishna stands at the centre of a gathering of gopis, the devoted milkmaids of Vraj whose love for him is understood in the Bhakti tradition as the human soul's longing for the divine. The scene is drawn from the tradition of Krishna devotional painting that flourished across the courts of Rajasthan through the 19th century. The original was commissioned for a royal collection in the hill kingdoms of northern India and now hangs in the Cleveland Museum of Art. This print is the only way to own it.
