Provenance
Ladakh Thangka painting emerges from the sacred Himalayan Buddhist artistic tradition, deeply influenced by Tibetan monastic ateliers and preserved for centuries across the high-altitude regions of Ladakh. Traditionally executed by trained monk-artists, Thangkas function not merely as paintings but as meditative instruments and visual scriptures.
Grounded in the scientific discipline of Iconometry, each Thangka adheres to precise proportional grids derived from canonical Buddhist texts. These measurements are not aesthetic alone — they are believed to spiritually “activate” the deity’s presence within the artwork.
Practiced in monasteries and artisan lineages across Ladakh and parts of Himachal Pradesh, this tradition continues to preserve its devotional authenticity in contrast to mass-produced variants.
This artwork is painted by Shri Tsering, continuing the lineage of Ladakhi Thangka atelier practice rooted in sacred iconographic precision.
