MATERIAL AND CARE
Tanjore painting is South India’s gift to sacred art, born in the royal courts of Thanjavur under the Nayakas and Marathas. Heavy with gold, dense with devotion, these works were never just wall decorations, they were acts of offering. This panel captures Goddess Meenakshi of Madurai, the emerald-hued queen who rules alongside Sundareshwar, her temple thronged with lamps and jasmine. Here, she stands in that timeless Tanjore style: bold outlines, jewel-like colors, and hammered gold leaf that seems to hold its own light. It is part painting, part icon, carrying centuries of faith, ritual, and kingship in its frame.
