Nur Jahan, the favourite wife of the Mughal emperor Jahangir, stands at the jharokha window holding a formal portrait of her husband, who appears aged behind the imperial carpet. The painting is attributed to Bishandas, one of the most celebrated portraitists at the Mughal court, and was likely made in the final year of Jahangir's life as Nur Jahan began positioning herself for continued influence. The original was commissioned for a royal collection in the hill kingdoms of northern India and now hangs in the Cleveland Museum of Art. This print is the only way to own it.
