Provenance
A woman sits by an artificial cascade within a palace, one hand raised in appreciation of the music being performed by her attendants. Another washes her foot. The cascade runs beside them — decorative, controlled, a palace garden feature that adds cool sound to an already considered scene.
The composition is adapted from a Mughal prototype, a reminder that Pahari painting did not develop in isolation but in continuous dialogue with the Mughal visual tradition — borrowing arrangements and subjects, then rendering them in the distinct Pahari register: warmer in palette, more intimate in scale, less concerned with formal grandeur than with the quality of a specific moment.
