Material
The blending of textile fibres is a deliberate craft, bringing together materials with complementary qualities to create a surface that is greater than the sum of its parts. A silk and wool blend, for instance, marries the inherent strength, softness, and lustre of silk with the warmth, elasticity, and resilience of wool. The result is a material of exceptional depth, texture, and durability, balancing visual sophistication with everyday performance. As light moves across the surface, the silk subtly reflects while the wool absorbs, creating a rich interplay of tone and dimension that enhances the beauty of the design.

Provenance
Woven by hand in Uttar Pradesh using Silk Wool Blend, Mahtab belongs to the formal runner tradition — the carpet format developed for corridors, hallways, and the passages between principal rooms in grand interiors. Its midnight-navy field is given structure by two bold circular medallions, set in symmetrical sequence along the runner's length, each rendered in ivory and grey against the dark ground. This double-medallion arrangement is among the more graphic configurations in the classical Persian formal repertoire, favoured for the visual command it lends to long, narrow floor surfaces.
The medallion-on-dark-ground format Mahtab employs traces to the formal court carpets of the Persian classical period, where a contained central motif against a saturated ground served to anchor a room's principal axis. Mahtab's double medallion adapts this single-medallion convention to the runner's elongated proportions, repeating the form to create rhythm along the corridor rather than a single point of focus. The cream inset border that frames the navy field performs the traditional function of the guard border — containing the composition and providing the tonal relief against which the medallions read with full clarity.
The deep navy ground anchors the runner with the gravity of a formal floor, while the ivory medallions and cream border supply the contrast that keeps the dense composition legible at a glance. Grey accents within the medallion detailing add a third tonal layer, preventing the navy-and-ivory contrast from becoming stark. The result is a runner of considerable graphic confidence — well suited to the entrance hall or gallery passage that calls for a floor treatment with genuine presence.
