In Persian and Urdu poetry, mahtab describes the particular quality of a moonlit night: a cool, silver brilliance that reveals form without the heat or glare of day, light that emerges from and returns to darkness. As a name for this carpet, Mahtab captures the ivory and grey medallions set against the deep navy field — two points of cool brilliance suspended in darkness, the visual effect of moonlight against a night sky.

Mahtab's deep navy ground gives the corridor or passage a floor of formal depth and quiet drama — a deliberate departure from the lighter runners in the collection.
