A golden window shade rolls up to reveal a princess seated on a terrace, her attendant beside her and a wooded landscape extending beyond. The composition uses a trompe l'oeil device to invert the familiar jharokha convention: the viewer looks from inside the palace outward, reversing the usual direction of royal display. The work is attributed to Aqil Khan and comes from the Lucknow court, where Mughal painting developed an elaborate decorative sensibility in the late 18th century. The original was commissioned for a royal collection in the hill kingdoms of northern India and now hangs in the Cleveland Museum of Art. This print is the only way to own it.
