Provenance
This painting draws from the royal narrative traditions of western India, particularly the Rajput ateliers of Rajasthan, where processional scenes became visual declarations of sovereignty. Between the 16th and 19th centuries, such works were commissioned to commemorate state occasions — coronations, victories, religious festivals, diplomatic receptions, and ceremonial journeys.
In Rajput painting, movement was carefully structured. Elephants, horses, attendants, musicians, and guards were arranged in rhythmic progression, creating visual flow without chaos. Hierarchy was expressed through scale and placement, while architecture and landscape anchored the scene within royal territory.
These artworks were not merely decorative. They functioned as historical records and instruments of prestige, preserving the spectacle of rule for palace archives and future generations. Executed in mineral pigments with meticulous line work, they balanced grandeur with disciplined composition.
Rooted in this lineage, the painting embodies ceremonial motion rendered with elegance and control.
