Amber and blue against ivory — the warmth of fired earth held in tension with the cool of sky and water, organised here in the garden vase format: botanical vases distributed across the ivory field, each overflowing with amber and blue botanical ornament, the whole surface carrying the Persian garden's characteristic organisation of natural abundance within a formal structure. The amber tones in Silk Wool Blend carry the warmth of autumn light; the blue provides the cool counterpoint that gives the composition its tonal depth.
Woven by hand in Uttar Pradesh using Silk Wool Blend, Sarv draws on the Persian garden vase tradition, using the amber and blue combination that belongs to the richest end of the classical Persian palette — the colours of Safavid tilework, of Mughal stonework, of the decorative arts tradition that moved between India and Iran over centuries of shared culture. The Silk Wool Blend pile carries both colours with exceptional evenness and luminosity; the ivory ground provides the brightness against which each colour performs at its maximum.
