Art Print – “Vakratunda”: Lord Ganesha Before a Marigold Bloom

Provenance

Vakratunda presents Lord Ganesha standing serenely before an immense marigold bloom, framed within a deep navy field and a cream border that recalls the devotional prints once found in Indian homes and shrines. The name 'Shri Ganesh' is inscribed in Devanagari at the top, and beneath the image runs the opening of the beloved Ganesha prayer, 'Vakratunda Mahakaya'.

Ganesha raises his right hand in the gesture of blessing, the sacred syllable 'Om' marked on his palm, while his other hands hold an axe, a pink lotus and a bowl of round golden sweets. He wears a jewelled golden crown, garlands of flowers and pearls, a red and green shawl and saffron-yellow garments, and a small mouse, his vahana, sits attentively at his feet. A golden halo glows behind his head.

The saturated orange and gold of the marigold, its petals finely streaked like brushwork, glow against the dense navy ground, while rose, emerald and deep red accents enrich the figure. Crisp outlines, frontal symmetry and the generous cream margin give the print a clear, iconic presence, balancing devotional warmth with graphic modern clarity.
