Provenance
Mysore painting evolved from the classical mural traditions of South India, drawing inspiration from the sacred visual language of the Ajanta Caves and Badami Caves. After the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire in the 16th century, master artisans migrated toward Mysore, where the tradition flourished under the patronage of the Wodeyar dynasty.
Encouraged initially by Raja Wadiyar (1578–1617 A.D.) and later refined during the reign of Krishna Raja Wadiyar III (1794–1868 A.D.), Mysore painting developed hallmark characteristics: fine linear precision, soft modeling, subtle relief work, and delicate 22KT gold leaf embellishment.
Recognized under Geographical Indication (GI Application No. 32) and awarded GI status in 2005 as the 26th registered GI product of India, Mysore painting remains protected for its regional authenticity and refined craftsmanship.
This artwork is painted by Smt. Chaitra Roopa, continuing the lineage of traditional Mysore atelier practice.
