Its ground is silver-grey, and across it a diamond medallion allover composition is worked in ivory tones so close to the field that the pattern reads as texture rather than graphic, as atmosphere rather than ornament. From a distance, Sepehr appears almost plain; at close range, the full complexity of the allover composition becomes visible.
Woven by hand in Uttar Pradesh using Silk Wool Blend, Sepehr represents the most demanding end of the tonal carpet tradition. This requires absolute consistency of dyeing and uniformity of pile height.
